It keeps Microsoft at bay. 2. They actively support opensource and will keep MySQL running. 3. Perhaps they will build in some good old fashioned Sun quality and improve an already decent database. I can only hope that they will not do something crazy like try to build a native Java version of MySQL. If they do, I am outta here and hopping onto Postgres. Just look what they did for OpenOffice (a free and more stable (I might add) version of MS Office). Their corporate culture is centered around the idea of Open Knowledge and stability. Sun continues to evolve in some fascinating ways and they are definitely look to play a more central role in the world of open-source.
